Six weeks ago, Bar Lab’s and chef Timon Balloo announced the opening of complementary establishments in downtown Miami. Today more information has emerged about Bar Lab’s wine bar. Margot Natural Wine & Aperitivo Bar, scheduled to open the fourth quarter of 2019, will offer wines and low-alcohol cocktails made with amaro, aperitifs, and vermouths. The bar’s wine selection will specialize in natural, or “natty,” wines — ones made organically or biodynamically with minimal intervention and without chemicals or preservatives, and made from sustainably grown grapes by smaller producers and in small batches. It’s very similar to craft spirit-making in that the vines aren’t really messed with.” Orta and Zvi made a name for themselves with their cocktail lounge the Broken Shaker. Orta says the wines won’t be from any one particular region, though he’s noticed that women winemakers are putting out some of […]

Lost Boy is a rustic lounge converted from a clothing and vinyl store, hence the term “dry goods.” With exposed brick and deer skull ornaments, its retro progressive era style is atypical of downtown Miami. Lost Boy features free to play darts, pool, and board games. This neighborhood bar is straightforward and no-nonsense. Get comfy Monday through Friday from 4-8 p.m. and enjoy Lost Boy’s happy hour: half off menu and wells. According to The New Tropic: “The store opened a few years back specializing in high-end denim and apparel for men and women but converted into a bar just in time for the spread of World Cup fever here in Miami. Stop by for a drink and check out the stylish decor and chill vibe while catching sports action on the multiple TVs around the bar.” According to Time Out: “In Randy Alonso’s eyes, Lost Boy (the bar) should be a mash-up of an English pub, western saloon, and classic salty American sailor bar. Lost Boy has only been open for two months but—we’ve got to say—he and his partner Chris Hudnall kind of nailed it. It might look a tad confusing on paper but after a drink in Lost Boy, a roomy joint filled […]

Mama Tried, a cozy and affordable throwback in the center of Downtown Miami, is the brainchild of the co-founder of popular spots like Purdy Lounge, Sweet Liberty and Blackbird Ordinary. Along with Dan Binkiewicz and Mauricio Lacayo of The Bend Liquor Lounge, they’ve created a low-key, funky spot in the otherwise 9-to-5 neighborhood. According to YELP: “Great decor, like nothing I’ve ever seen before and friendly bartenders.” “A bigger and full operated bar, cool lighting, live DJ, and spacious spot to hang out. And the name is so catching and just feels like the ‘Locals Bar.’” According to UrbanDaddy: “Partly because of the drinks, partly because of the vibe. All this, you’ll think, embodies a swanky dive bar.” Stay tuned at Miami City Social for more information.
