The Powerball jackpot has ballooned to $245 million, the fourth largest since Florida joined the multistate, big-money game nearly three years ago, according to lottery officials.
The drawing is 10:59 p.m. Wednesday.
In July, Elizabeth Choras-Hanna of Hollywood, an unemployed medical assistant, won $73.8 million. Florida’s first, and largest, Powerball winner was an Orlando-area dermatologist, who snagged a $189 million prize in October 2009.
Lottery spokesman Shelly Safford said Powerball sales in Florida stand at $121 million for the 2011-2012 fiscal year, a 31.5 percent increase from this time last year. A total of $390 million in tickets were sold for the full 2010-11 fiscal year.
Florida began offering Powerball tickets for the first time in January 2009, making it the biggest state to participate.
