Victoria Beckham ordered to wear FLAT shoes to New York Fashion Week

The undisputed Queen of high heels, Victoria Beckham, has been banned from wearing her favourite shoes to New York Fashion Week.

After suffering a slipped disc following the birth of daughter Harper Seven in July, the 37-year-old designer is under doctor’s orders to avoid stilettos.

In what must be a fashion first, Mrs Beckham will launch a post-baby fashion comeback from her usual height.

A source told the Mirror: ‘Victoria’s not had an easy past few weeks. But she’s a trooper and after getting the all-clear to attend Fashion Week provided her back doesn’t significantly deteriorate, she has been advised to avoid heels.’

Friends say that the ex-Spice Girl slipped the disc while she was expecting, and it was exacerbated by her caesarean operation.

The designer, who has won plaudits for her DVB collections’ sleek tailoring, was due to show off her post-baby weight loss at next month’s international fashion showcase.

There is rarely a flat shoe on show at any Fashion Week – the discerning choosing to wear high heels to shows and parties.

The catwalk, too, is a site normally reserved for a vertiginous heel, with rare exceptions by Balenciaga and Chanel raising well-sculpted eyebrows at recent shows.

‘Although her heel-wearing wasn’t the cause of her back problems, stilettos don’t help her condition,’ said the source.

‘Victoria has been frantically surfing the web for an acceptable pair of flats, ones which don’t make her look like a golf club.’

According to the newspaper, Christian Louboutin and Roger Vivier are both tipped to save the day and design Mrs Beckham a suitably glamorous flat alternative.

Mrs Beckham has before been forced to wear flats after suffering from bunion problems. Still, it is not the fashionista’s usual sleek style.

The LA-based star is certainly influential on trends. Her famous ‘pob’ – posh bob – was widely imitated and sky-scraper heels continue to have their moment in the sun following her cameo in a pair of gravity-defying Louboutins at April’s Royal Wedding.
