Annie Leibovitz is one of the most influential photographers of our time. In an exclusive Miami event to mark the publication of a revised and expanded edition of Annie Leibovitz at Work (Phaidon), she will present and discuss a selection of her pictures. Originally published in 2008, Annie Leibovitz at Work was written with young photographers in mind, but it provides an illuminating view of Leibovitz’s photographic practice for a broad audience. There are stories behind some of her best-known images—Richard Nixon’s resignation, the Rolling Stones on tour, Queen Elizabeth II—as well as discussions of lighting, cameras, studios, photojournalism, working with writers, and the ten things she is always asked. Annie Leibovitz’s astute observations of American life have had a prominent place in the cultural landscape for nearly five decades. She has received many honors, including the International Center of Photography’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the Centenary Medal of the Royal Photographic Society, the Wexner Prize, and the Prince of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities. Artemis: Great Women in Jazz Cécile McLorin Salvant, vocals Renee Rosnes, piano and musical director Anat Cohen, clarinet Melissa Aldana, tenor saxophone Ingrid Jensen, trumpet Noriko Ueda, bass Allison Miller, drums Hailing from America, Canada, France, Chile, Israel and Japan, ARTEMIS is an extraordinary all-star group comprised of seven of the finest performers in jazz today, gender irrelevant. The band features a powerful front line of A-list musicians in trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, tenor saxophonist Melissa Aldana and clarinetist Anat Cohen; a virtuosic rhythm section of pianist and music director Renee Rosnes, bassist Noriko Ueda, Allison Miller on drums, and the brilliant vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant. This magical production is a celebration of the 1939 MGM movie and will be presented with breathtaking special effects that will sweep audiences away from the moment the tornado twists its way into Kansas. Follow Dorothy, Toto and their friends the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow “Over the Rainbow” to adventures in Munchkin Land, the Haunted Forest and the Emerald City. Featuring the classic songs, as composed by Harold Arlen, “Over the Rainbow,” “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” and “If I Only Had A Brain,” along with the beloved characters, The Wizard of Oz will have the entire family captivated as they travel down the yellow brick road for an unforgettable day at the theater.
