Poetry and Jazz finds San Francisco writer Jack Hirschman joined by the Terni Jazz Orchestra Ensemble for an innovative evening of music, poetry, and politics, featuring the poet’s distinctive voice as an integral part of original music compositions. The longstanding collaboration between Hirschman and the group of Italian musicians, led by composer/arranger Marco Collazzoni and saxophonist Francesco Guzzetta, began at the International Poetry Festival in Sarajevo, Bosnia, thanks to the patronage of Casa della Poesia di Salerno, and culminated with the recording of a CD presented at Teatro Valle in Rome in 2014. Named after the ancient Greek deity personifying the Earth, GAIA is the final program of Kaleidoscope MusArt’s 2017-18 concert season Out of Doors. Honoring Earth Day, the program draws together piano works by Bartók, Scriabin, Feldman, Ornstein, Debussy, Murail and the world premiere of Funrunner by Joseph Klein. Distinguished musicologist Frank Cooper will provide the historical context of the compositions performed by Alan Johnson, Redi Llupa, Inesa Gegprifti, Maria Sumareva, Joana Gonzalez and Larisa Soboleva. Projections of artworks by Sebastian Spreng will accompany selected pieces offering a visual dimension to the sonic experience.
