Join MTT in kicking off the Academy’s 2014-15 season with groundbreaking selections by classical music revolutionaries. Witness Stravinsky’s striking duality in his neoclassic Symphony, nicknamed his “passport to America.” Tamás Varga, Principal Cellist of the Vienna Philharmonic, takes the stage for Schoenberg’s adaptation of a Baroque harpsichord concerto. Stravinsky veers from his familiar tribal-like vitality and looks to Hollywood, as he recycles his score for the film The North Star in this jovial Scherzo. Antheil’s inventive A Jazz Symphony, also inspired by Stravinsky, comes alive in a newly created staged performance that encapsulates the easy-going Jazz Age, complete with dancers, projections and lighting.
