Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy Department will continue its successful jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents, at noon, Wednesday, April 9, featuring celebrated jazz educator and saxophonist Jamey Aebersold.
A recipient of the 2014 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Award, the nation’s highest honor in jazz, Aebersold has been a driving force in jazz education for more than 50 years. His play-along recordings have revolutionized the study of jazz and helped promulgate the art form around the world. An exceptional saxophonist, Aebersold’s concert will likely show his love for the music of Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk.
In 1989, the International Association of Jazz Educators inducted Aebersold into its Hall of Fame. With this award, he joins other jazz luminaries such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong and others. He also was awarded the Indiana Governor’s Arts Award, and the Jazz Midwest Clinic bestowed him with the Medal of Honor in Jazz Education.
MDC’s Jazz at Wolfson Presents features live performances that run monthly from September through April. The concerts are free and open to the public.
