To expose more kids to the art of theater, Miami Dade College’s InterAmerican Campus is hosting the annual International Children’s Day on Sunday, July 21, from 2-7 p.m. Held in conjunction with the XXVII International Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami, the educational, fun-filled extravaganza will feature art and crafts, rides, face painting, live music, workshops on acting, dance, painting and puppetry, as well as a theatre performance of Güepajé. The event is free and open to the public!

Written and directed by Ciro Gómez Acevedo, Güepajé tells of the spell that music can cast on listeners. It invites audiences to experience a fantastical adventure amid mangroves, in the company of an ogre, a likeable goblin, trained alligators and much more. All one has to do is set out on the journey with Grandfather Makú and Concho, the fisherman, in search of the legendary Water Flower.

Sponsored by Target, this annual celebration of bilingual theater is presented in collaboration with Teatro Avante and the Asociacion Cultural Hilos of Bogota, Colombia.
