Miami Dade College(MDC) will officially celebrate the recent reopening of the historic Koubek Mansion and Gardens, known for decades as the site of important cultural and educational events, meetings and discussions, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9. The occasion will also mark the inauguration of the center’s renovated theater.
The celebration includesa gripping monologue written and directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and MDC alumnus Nilo Cruz, as well as engaging poetry readings, a rare appearance by Olga Maria Touzet Guillot, daughter of legendary musical figures Olga Guillot and René Touzet, and much more!The ArtSpace Gallery will host the exhibition “”Journey to the Center of the Stage,””a colorful exhibit of theatrical set and costume designsby Jorge Noa and Pedro Balmaseda.
Open now for several months, the Koubek Centerhosts workshops, art exhibitions, theatre and music performances, literary readings, and more, many in partnership with other organizations, as well as with the consulates of the many countries represented in Miami’s multicultural population.
The event will offer the community a chance to explore the new and creative spaces at the Center, such as BlackBox 1 and 2, designed for experimental artistic activities, and BookCorner, a bookstore that holds intimate chats with local personalities, readings and more.
The Koubek Center is a part of MDCulture,the Cultural Affairs Department of the College.
