Miami Dade College (MDC) Wolfson Campus presents the One Billion Rising Voices celebration of International Human Rights Day with a youth voices forum featuring author and activist Eve Ensler on Thursday, Dec. 10.

Ensler, the Tony Award winning playwright, activist, and author of the theatrical phenomenon, The Vagina Monologues, will lead the discussion to commemorate the day as of part of the One Billion Rising Revolution’s Listen! Act! Rise! Campaign to listen to the voices of the most marginalized.

International Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on the 10th of December. The date was chosen to honor the United Nationals General Assembly’s adoption and proclamation, on the 10th of December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). It was the first global enunciation of human rights and one of the first major achievements of the new United Nations.

One Billion Rising Miami brings together stakeholders and ordinary citizens to envision and plug into the global solidarity necessary to change the statistics of violence against women and girls, while focusing locally on the greatest challenges facing the South Florida community.

MDC has collaborated with One Billion Rising for the last three years, bringing increased awareness to its 165,000 students.
