Leave the chocolates and teddy bears at home and spend your Valentine’s Day with the Percussion Fellows for a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the mass-market holiday. In the aptly named Cheating, Lying, Stealing, David Lang rocks hard in this driving hit from his Bang on a Can days. Caroline Shaw employs flower pots in her quest to bottle the epic, grand and creepy in her successful Taxidermy, and jazz and rock battle it out in Hollinden’s imaginative Surface Tension. In a brief respite, Bryars’ transcendental homage to a founding father of percussion manufacturers is a meditative moment in an otherwise hard-rocking performance.
