What came first, the pig or Porcao? The iconic Brazilian steakhouse that offered endless amounts of meat and animal parts for a $43 price tag, not to mention salad, pasta, and appetizer bars was a Magic City staple for more than a decade. From ambiance — it was located at the Four Ambassadors overlooking the bay — to service, food quality, and pricing, Porcao had it all. Still, it wasn’t enough to overcome the bad economy and a switch in ownership that resulted in lower food quality.
In the time that’s passed since Porcao closed, Brickell has changed dramatically, becoming a hub for anyone looking for some food, drinks, and a good time. It would only make sense then, that the next restaurant to inhabit the Porcao’s former space would be of the same nature: a Rodizio-style Brazilian steakhouse. Brasileiro is scheduled to open on Friday, July 12, with elegant yet unpretentious Brazilian cuisine made up of sizzling steaks and fresh seafood. Oh, and cocktails…
With more than 15 years of experience, including stints at popular local hotspots, The Local House, Yuca, and Cafeina, Guily Booth will bring her culinary prowess to the new steakhouse as executive chef. Her menu will offer a variety of affordable small tapas-style plates along with delectable Brazilian staples and, of course, meat. Lots and lots of meat.
Both a la carte items and the traditional Brazilian all-you-can-eat style rodizio will be offered. For $39 a person — excluding tax and gratuity — guests will be served picanha, churrasco, Brazilian sausages, leg of lamb, and bacon wrapped chicken — amongst others — tableside by passadores. Who doesn’t like Brazilian men walking around showing off meat?
Roaming buffet carts will troll around with unlimited helpings of a-la-carte dishes such as white rice, black beans, French fries, fried banana, forafa, salad and fried yuca for you to retrieve and eat as you’d like. In case rodizio-style is too much for you (because you’re weird) Booth has also conceptualized a selection of a la carte appetizers – crab cakes, calamari steak, lamb sliders — and entrees — Brazilian classic moqueca bahia, blacken cobia, and black seafood risotto. Prices for a la carte will range from $8-$36.
It might not be Porcao, but the space is the same, so it will still seat 300 hungry folks inside, with a private area for up to 60 in case you want to pig out in secret. An outdoor patio will seat up to 70 and another 50 will fit comfortably at the “cozy” bar. Brasileiro will open for lunch, happy hour, and dinner service daily with hours running from 11 a.m to 11 p.m Monday-Wednesday, to midnight Thursday – Saturday, and closing at 10 p.m on Sunday’s. Valet parking will be $3 with validation, but we suggest parking in a meter a couple of blocks away and getting in some walking before and after your rodizio-style feast. You’re gonna need it. You might want to wear your loosest pair of pants. Just saying.
