BaZi Miami plans to open at South Beach

Marlin Hotel at South Beach will have an addition to their dining experience this coming summer. The succesful duo Chef Michael Pirolo and partner Jennifer Chaefsky, who are behind the Macchialina Taverna Rustica, will soon be opening their second restaurant called BaZi. The restaurant located at the Marlin Hotel, is under construction and slated to open this summer. It will offer progressive interpretations of classic Asian dishes, covering all regions of that vast part of the world. The name, literally “eight characters” in Chinese, refers to the ancient system of astrology that forecasts the life paths of every person. Here is more information about BaZi Miami :

According to Miami.com :

“Pirolo, whose Italian cooking in South Florida has garnered critical acclaim, first at Scarpetta in the Fontainebleau then at Macchialina, says Asian cuisine is a natural progression for him. He notes that, besides travel and research, he learned Asian techniques while working in Philadelphia under chef Christopher Lee, now executive chef at The Forge in Miami Beach. BaZi is the first phase of a multimillion-dollar renovation of The Marlin. The small hotel, built in 1939 and home to a former recording studio used by Bob Marley, Pharrell Williams, Jay Z, Aerosmith and others, sold in April for $9.5 million to South Florida-based MRK Investments.” written by  Evan S. According to New Times :

“Asked to compare the culinary style of BaZi, the chef describes it as slightly more modern, perhaps whimsical in its execution yet not overly precious. Much like Macchialina, it will offer deep, layered flavors built by time-honored techniques but will be conceived overall with a fresh perspective. Although the menu has not yet been finalized, Pirolo hints, You may see dishes inspired by classic offerings such as pad thai, ramen, or fried rice… The landscape in which we are working with creates endless opportunities, but in keeping with our approach to Macchialina, the menu items will not be overly complicated but will be derived from the freshest of ingredients and will be harmonious with one another as guests create their complete meal.” written by Carla Torres.
