221 Cafe opens at Downtown Miami

Downtown Miami got themself a healthy addition for food. 221 Cafe opens at 221 NW 1st Ave. They won’t reinvent cooking or what you eat. They specialize in serving delicious, healthy, natural and organic food, essentially local and homemade; a quality necessary for our health . Farm to table! They also offer organic fruits and vegetables; hormone-free, and antibiotic-free meats; all-natural and organic cheeses; artisanal breads and vegan desserts. They cook for you every day as they do for their own family, with some french flavors. They also use recyclable products. They hope to bring well-being in your body and in your spirit. “When Carène and Jean Zaragoza moved here from France, they found Downtown Miami lacked healthy, fresh and local dining options. 221 Cafe is their way of addressing the issue, and the couple pride themselves in offering mainly organic food from local purveyors. The Zaragozas use bread from Zak the Baker, java from Panther Coffee, and they visit local farms and farmers markets to source ingredients. Breakfast options include omelettes, a bagel with wild salmon, whole wheat pancakes and the 221 special: egg whites, avocado, tomato and lettuce on ciabatta.” written by Valeria Nekhim.

“The restaurant serves breakfast & lunch daily with an emphasis on healthy cuisine. The menu offers a variety of items including fresh pastries baked daily, 100% organic smoothies, juices, hormone & antibiotic-free meats such as burgers or meatballs, sandwiches, salads, & savory toasts.The 221 Special breakfast sandwich features egg whites, avocado & tomato slices. However, it’s the scrumptious, thick-cut, multigrain ciabatta bread, from Zak the Baker, that is truly outstanding. We also devoured the flavorful, thin Sweet Potato Fries seasoned with sea salt ordered as a side. We were impressed with the unique Greek Quinoa Salad, a generous combination loaded with fresh, chopped vegetables & feta cheese with Greek dressing. However, the savory Meatballs, four amply-sized balls of ground turkey topped with a rich & chunky tomato sauce & served with focaccia bread, was our over-all favorite dish.
